This booklet is a learning resource designed specifically for neurodiverse learners to support the learning of letters, sounds and numbers in a structured weekly format. The aim of the booklet is to help children practise letter recognition, phonics, vocabulary, counting and number recognition through clear and engaging activities.

Each section focuses on a letter and number of the week. Children complete activities that include recognising the letter, reading simple words, listening to a short story, tracing the letter, and practising number recognition and counting.

The structured layout allows teachers or parents to focus on one letter and one number at a time, making learning manageable and predictable for young learners.

Sections / Themes included in the booklet

The booklet contains structured activities that can be used during the week to practise one letter and one number.

1. Letter of the week activities

Each letter page introduces the uppercase and lowercase letter and includes vocabulary words that begin with that sound.

Examples include:

• A a – apple, alligator, axe, ant

• B b – bee, ball, bat, bicycle

• C c – cat, carrot, cake, crayon

• D d – dog, door, doll, dragon

• E e – egg, eggplant, eskimo, elephant

These activities help children practise letter recognition and beginning sounds.

2. Short reading stories

Each letter also includes a short phonics-based story using simple vocabulary.

Examples include short stories such as:

• “A goat sees grass. The grass grows next to a gate.”

• “A hen sees a hat. The hat is in the hay.”

• “An insect sees an igloo. The igloo is on ice.”

These short stories help children practise reading comprehension and phonics awareness.

3. Letter recognition and writing

Children practise identifying the correct letter and tracing it several times.

Activities include:

• circling the correct letter

• tracing uppercase and lowercase letters

• writing the letter on writing lines.

4. Sound and vocabulary activities

The booklet also includes spaces where learners can practise:

• identifying the sound of the letter

• creating a simple story or sentence

• tracing or writing the letter.

5. Number of the week

The booklet also focuses on numbers from 1 to 20.

Each number section includes activities such as:

• colouring the correct number of objects

• counting pictures

• identifying the correct number name

• circling the correct number.

Examples include:

• One (1)

• Two (2)

• Three (3)

• Four (4)

• Five (5)

• continuing up to Twenty (20).
